Alexa+ Expands to Web Browsers via Alexa.com

Amazon has introduced a web-based version of its Alexa assistant through a new site called Alexa.com. The launch allows users to access Alexa from a web browser instead of relying only on smart speakers or mobile apps. The service is part of Amazon’s Alexa+ rollout.

Alexa.com is currently available through an early access program. Users must have an Amazon account and be enrolled in Alexa+ Early Access to use the browser version. At launch, access is limited to users in the United States with accounts set to U.S. English.

The browser-based Alexa allows users to type questions and requests. It can respond to general questions, help with planning tasks, and assist with organizing information. Alexa can also help generate content such as lists or schedules. Conversations can continue across devices because Alexa keeps track of context through the user’s account.

Some features available on Echo devices are not yet supported on Alexa.com. Voice interaction is not enabled in the browser version. Music playback is also unavailable. Smart home controls are limited, although users can view certain device information and activity.

Alexa.com includes tools for everyday organization. Users can create shopping lists and meal plans. These lists can connect with Amazon services such as Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods. The platform also supports uploading files like emails or documents. Alexa can extract dates, reminders, and other details from uploaded content.

The browser interface displays information alongside the chat window. This layout allows users to review responses and manage tasks visually. Amazon says the experience is designed to work alongside other Alexa-enabled devices rather than replace them.

Amazon stated that Alexa.com includes privacy controls. User interactions are tied to existing Amazon account settings. Uploaded content remains under the user’s control, and Amazon advises users to avoid sharing sensitive personal information.

During the early access period, Alexa+ is available at no cost. After early access ends, Amazon plans to include Alexa+ for Amazon Prime members. Non-Prime users will be able to subscribe for a monthly fee.

The launch of Alexa.com marks Amazon’s first effort to make Alexa available directly in a web browser. It expands where and how users can interact with the assistant without requiring dedicated hardware.
