Google is turning Chrome on Android into something more than a browser.

Gemini in Chrome is now available to all Android users in the United States. The built-in AI assistant can summarize articles and answer questions about the page you’re viewing. It can also work with Google apps without forcing you to jump between tabs.

There is a bigger change tucked inside the rollout. Google is bringing auto browse to Android for eligible AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. Instead of only answering questions, Gemini can now handle certain online tasks on the user’s behalf.

That moves Chrome closer to Google’s vision of an agentic browser.

Gemini Is Now Built Into Chrome on Android

Gemini in Chrome is now available to Android users across the U.S. Users can open it through the Gemini icon or Chrome’s three-dot menu. Once active, Gemini can understand the page currently open in the browser. You can ask questions about its content or request a quick summary. That removes some of the usual switching between Chrome and a separate AI app.

Chrome Can Summarize the Page You’re Already Reading

Long webpages are an obvious target for the feature. Gemini can summarize an article without requiring users to copy text into another service. It can also explain parts of a page when something isn’t clear. This turns the current webpage into context for the AI conversation. The idea is simple: keep the user inside Chrome while Gemini handles some of the reading.

Gemini Connects Chrome With Google Apps

Google is also using Gemini to connect browsing with its wider ecosystem. The Android version can interact with services including Calendar and Keep. Earlier Chrome integrations have also extended across Gmail, Maps, YouTube and other Google services. A user could take information from a webpage and move it into another workflow without manually switching between several apps. That makes Gemini less like a search box and more like an assistant sitting inside the browser.

Nano Banana Brings AI Image Tools Into the Browser

Gemini in Chrome also includes Google’s Nano Banana image capabilities. Users can generate or customize images while browsing. One example Google previously gave involved turning webpage information into an infographic. Another involved changing an apartment photo to visualize different furniture. The important part is where this happens. Users don’t need to download an image and move it into a separate editing tool first.

Auto Browse Is the Bigger Shift

Auto browse takes Chrome beyond AI summaries and questions. It gives Gemini the ability to perform multi-step actions across websites. On Android, Google says the feature can handle tasks such as booking parking or updating a recurring online order. It can also help organize travel plans. For now, Android access is available to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.

Chrome Is Starting to Act on the Web for You

The distinction matters. Most browser AI tools started by helping users understand information. Auto browse can actually interact with websites to complete parts of a task. Google previously demonstrated the technology researching travel options, filling online forms and managing subscriptions. It can also help with appointments and other repetitive web chores. The browser is no longer limited to displaying the pages where those tasks happen.

Travel Planning Shows What Agentic Browsing Looks Like

Travel is a useful example of the change. Someone planning a vacation normally moves between flight searches, hotel websites, emails and booking pages. Auto browse can take over some of that repetitive work. Google’s desktop examples included comparing hotel and flight prices across different dates. The Android rollout extends that agentic idea to mobile browsing. That’s significant because plenty of everyday web activity already happens on phones.

Google Is Putting Limits Around Sensitive Actions

Giving an AI agent control over a browser creates obvious security questions. Google says Gemini in Chrome includes protections against threats such as prompt injection. Its models are trained to recognize known attacks that could manipulate an AI agent through webpage content. Auto browse also asks users for confirmation before completing some sensitive actions. That keeps the user involved when a task reaches a higher-risk step.

Agentic Browsers Are Becoming a New Web Battleground

Browsers have traditionally helped people navigate the web. AI is changing that relationship. Instead of opening pages and manually completing every step, users can increasingly tell the browser what outcome they want. The AI handles part of the journey.

Google has a major advantage here. Chrome already has enormous reach, while Gemini connects with Google’s wider ecosystem. Adding agentic actions directly into that environment could make AI browsing feel less like a separate product.

The Android rollout makes that strategy more visible. Gemini can read pages, work with other apps, manipulate images and complete selected web tasks. Chrome isn’t just becoming AI-assisted. Parts of the browsing experience are becoming automated.
